Street Fighter V Shipped Less Than 100K Copies In Last 3 Months

Capcom recently released their quarterly earnings report from April to June, revealing they shipped less than 100 000 copies of the fighting game through the past three months.

In the report, Street Fighter V is listed as having shipped 1.4 million copies. However, in Capcom's previous earnings report, the number remains the same.

It's a disappointment to Capcom, who wanted the game to sell at least 2 million copies of Street Fighter V by Mar 31, 2016. The game sales were likely hampered by poor word of mouth, mainly stemming from the game's lack of substantial features at launch.

Street Fighter V has steadily released extra content since the game's release in February. Most recently they added premium summer costumes for Cammy, Laura and Ibuki as well as the addition of Juri, a fan favourite from Super Street Fighter IV, to the roster. Earlier this month, they added Balrog and Ibuki as playable fighters, and a cinematic story mode entitled A Shadow Falls.

Capcom also recently released Capcom Pro Tour-themed DLC, including 3 new costumes (retailing $6 each), new colours, new titles and a new stage (retailing at $10) that updates based on Pro Tour events, like EVO. Proceeds from DLC sales will increase the Capcom Pro Tour prize pool.

Despite the game's poor launch, Street Fighter V is still making waves in the competitive scene, having a big showing at this year's EVO 2016 tournament. The Street Fighter V finals were simultaneously broadcast on Twitch and ESPN 2; with over 201,000 viewers watching on ESPN 2. We'll have to wait until the next quarterly report to see if game sales will benefit from the EVO showcase.

I love street fighter. And How to forget the cool war between the Snes and Sega megadrive versions, many years ago?

+ all the cash spent at the 'arcades'.

Street fighter 5 should have been amazing. With the power of pcs and ps4, Capcom almost had no limits. They could have made it huge, with tons of features, modes, goodies (a la mortal kombat Krypt ), with 30+ playable characters, like, guile and Blanka. This street fighter 5 game could have been the game we would be playing for the next 4 or 5 years.

But no. Not only there are only a few characters and locations, but the game is a micro transactions fest.
And how is it possible to not include offline player vs player ? How is it possibl r there isn't an arcade mode, where we fight 10 or 15 guys, until the last one ?

When I started reading r he first reviews, I couldn't believe my eyes, when I read those features were missing.

Automatically, for me, that meant *fuk you capcom and your fking game*.

Sf5 was just another game that was build around purchasable items. Everything is done to make people spend hundreds bucks on additional stuff.

    Without me.

There's offline vs, how do you think local tournaments run with no internet?

Blame capcom with its retarded believes that casual gamers buy a lot of games or even niche figting games and then censoring everything and expecthing the real fans to go along with it.

CApcom shot itself in the face by pandering to SJW/Feminists and real gamers aren't butthurt by a bit of skin. i myself was at first planning on buying it but i won't support censorship so they can get stuffed with their delusional idea's.

This is such a garbage article. Where the fuck is the source? The only link you have sends you to a review of the game. Why the fuck is that relevant?

I'm not surprised at all. Lackluster mechanics and a rocky launch turns a lot of players off, including me. Yeah evo and top competitive gameplay is still there, but so is Tekken 7. In fact, sfv is just boring to watch now. You want hype? Tekken 7 is it!

      "Lackluster mechanics"

Did you even play the game? I think not.

Yeah I have sadly... and it sucks Lol =(

I love SFV!! It's the only game I play daily. The gameplay is superb. EVO 2016 was sick!! LI Joe representing!! Phenomenal performance!!

  • Brad Donald

I specifically did not buy it cause of their censorship moves. I will not support censorship.

This game absolutely sucks. And as you can see Crapcom is once again nickel & diming their fans. Before costumes, colors & characters were included for $60. Now $10 a freaking stage, character, color!?!?

WTF CRAPCOM!?!?!? Your name is appropriate because this game is an unfinished STEAMING PILE OF SHIT

  • omarcominyo

A game underperforming is never good news but they really asked for it with this one!!

  • Guile

    An incomplete game sold poorly?

    What a shocker.

Capcom should learn their lesson from this and stop being one of the most half asses, greediest devs in the industry.
