New Cosmetics, Challenges, and Updates galore.

Today is Fortnite’s first birthday, and it’s already taking the cake by rewarding players with new cosmetics, challenges, and updates.

Starting today, Fortnite is having a limited time in-game event where players can earn birthday cosmetics by completing a set of quests and challenges.

These include playing 14 matches to unlock 5,000 XP, dealing 1,000 damage to enemies for a delicious cupcake emoticon, and dancing in front of 10 different birthday cakes for a birthday spray. Players who complete all three of these challenges will also earn the Birthday Cake Back Bling.

Birthday cakes can be found around the map with consumable slices right next to them. Each slice gives players +5 health and +5 shield when eaten.

Completing the birthday questline in Fortnite Save the World will give players the Birthday Brigade Ramirez Hero. Players can even get some Birthday Llamas by earning tickets. These llamas can contain heroes and weapons from every Fortnite event – excluding quest rewards – that has happened this year.

Along with the celebration is patch v5.10, where Playground will be back on July 25 and have an improved experience involving the ability to switch teams in-game, working aim assist for players using a gamepad, and even matches that will no longer end if one person leaves the server.

Multiple weapons and items have been updated as well, such as Slurp Juice and drop rates or weapons, traps, consumables, and materials.

Players can also wield the new and fast-firing Compact SMG weapon in Fortnite Battle Royale. This weapon lets them engage enemies in close quarters combat. Available as either an Epic or Legendary weapon, the Compact SMG does 23 to 24 damage, uses Light Ammo, and has a 50 round capacity. It can be found in chests, from floor loot, Supply Drops, and Vending Machines.

Meanwhile, Fortnite Save the World, it has new a questline available in addition to the birthday quests. While the birthday quests involve eating cakes to earn event ticks and eliminating Cake Sploders to earn a Birthday Hero, the new Canny Valley Campaign questline continues the story into Canny Valley, and can be found on the quest map.

Fortnite’s in-game celebration ends on August 7.
