Samurai action-adventure Ghost of Tsushima will be giving single players a chance to enjoy the game with friends through an online cooperative mode in the latest announcement by Sucker Punch Productions.
In a PlayStation blog post, Senior Game Designer Darren Bridges wrote the mode will be a free add-on for owners, while it takes Ghost of Tsushima into even more supernatural territory. Four samurai warriors, all based on mythical and powerful beings, will become a playable squad taking on challenges across new locations on the island. The team will also be in a PvE battle against increasingly difficult enemies both familiar and strange. Like the game’s new four heroes, enemies are also based on folk tales in a step-up from the regular forces Jin Sakai fought in single player.
The Legends mode will also put teams in linear combat and platforming-based missions which tests each member’s survival skills. There will also be four classes: Samurai, Hunter, Ronin and Assassin which come with their own abilities and character-exclusive weapons such as bows, maces and heavy blades. When chained properly, players can also combine their attacks against bigger enemies for efficient takedowns. This also helps during frantic battles which are wave-based.
According to Bridges, Legends will offer both Story and Survival missions, while a third Raid mode would come in a later update.
“It’s been so rewarding to see the amazing reactions from all of you as you play through Ghost of Tsushima,” Bridges wrote. “We’ve been watching so many of you stream your playthroughs, and can’t wait to open up this new way for all of us to play together! We’re happy to offer this mode completely free to Ghost of Tsushima owners as a thank you to our players, and we look forward to hearing what you think!”
No release date has been announced for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, while it’s set at a release window for Fall 2020.
