Toque Games and Wizards of the Coast have released a launch trailer for Dark Alliance, narrated by Flight of the Concords‘ Jermaine Clement, and provided an overview of its post-launch updates.
With less than two weeks to go before the “heart-pounding, kill-everything-that-moves action-brawler with co-op” arrives on all platforms, Clement walks us through its various features. Its cast will be familiar to Dungeons and Dragons fans, as it features the Forgotten Realms’ most recognizable heroes—the Companions of the Hall from R.A. Salvatore’s bestselling novels.
Designed for four-player co-operative play, Dark Alliance will take players through iconic locales from the roleplaying game’s famous setting, and pit them against the likes of Frost Giants, Beholders, and White Dragons. There are over thirty distinct types of enemies to best with a mixture of light, heavy, and special attacks, dodges, and parries. While the game can be played solo, special abilities are available when playing co-op to further diversify each character’s unique movesets. Ultimates can be unleashed once charged, while Empowered Strikes ensure critical damage. Each playable character has over fifty unlockable moves and abilities to keep combat diverse.
Montreal-based Toque Games worked in collaboration with Salvatore to tell a tale authentic to his source material. Players assume the roles of Drizzt Do’Urden, Catti-brie, Wulfgar, and Bruenor Battlehammer, bringing them to life like never before. The narrative follows the events of the seminal 1998 novel The Crystal Shard, seeing various villains join forces in order to steal the coveted gem.
As boasted in the trailer, Dark Alliance will not include microtransactions for gear, and will see two free DLC packs over the next few months. The first pack, dated “Summer 2021,” will bring new levels and two-player split-screen co-op, while the second will bring even more levels and new difficulty rankings in fall. Its first expansion, “Echoes of the Blood War,” will follow in the fall with another playable character, new levels, and more.
Dark Alliance launches in Canada and the US on June 22 for all platforms.
