Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith Review –Where is it?

Major Bugs Halt Progression

Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith Review –Where is it?

If you have followed anything I’ve done on CGMagazine for the last year, you’ve heard me rave about Cult of the Lamb. When I found out about the Relics of the Old Faith DLC, I was so excited to dive back into my original save file where I’d beaten the base game. New content was exciting, and I couldn’t wait to rejoin the Cult of Cahl—yes, that’s what I named my cult. Cahlayna has been my screen name for as long as I can remember.

Unfortunately, some major issues with Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith prevent players from progressing. I thought I was insane last night when I dived into Darkwood and ran into a new zone which introduces relics. Unfortunately, this room is incredibly bugged, and I’m not the only one facing this issue.

Basically, when you come into the room, there is a massive figure… hanging from the ceiling? Beneath it is a relic that will be introduced in a series of pop-ups. Relics are a new talent, unique to Relics of the Old Faith, and they bring a new combat mechanic to Cult of the Lamb. However, when you pick one up, the new character never speaks, and the exit does not unlock. You are stuck.

The only way to get out is to escape back to your cult, but that means you won’t progress in the DLC, which is frustrating, to say the least. According to Reddit, if you put on the Fleece of Fates, no relic rooms will spawn so you can fight your way through Darkwood, Anura, Anchordeep, and Silk Cradle. This will help you fight the Bishops, but you will miss the relics in Relics of the Old Faith.

What do we know about Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith?

What’s new about Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith?

A few things are new in Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith. Firstly, you will meet the new NPC, which begins with ??? as their name. You are later able to name them on your own, much like your followers. You’ll also meet the Relic NPC, who is apparently named Chemach, though I have yet to be able to speak with them.

Relics are obviously new too, but again, I have only been able to check out one—Ala’s Teeth which rains down lightning—and that was alone while trapped in the Relic room with the alleged Chemach, which I describe as a deranged owl.

There is a new heavy attack in game with your weapon. I haven’t quite gotten in the swing of using it regularly, but it feels like it could be worth it with faster weapons.

There are tons of new rooms when you venture into battle. There are rooms of varying shapes, some with rivers and even something I can only describe as a screaming house falling from the sky à la The Wizard of Oz.

God Tears is a new currency given to you by ???. They allow you to spin a wheel for various rewards. Forgotten Commandment Stones are also new, allowing you to unlock Doctrines you didn’t cover the first time and Sermon upgrades to unlock rerolls, heavy attacks, etc.

Can you start Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith Right Away?

Unfortunately, Relics of the Old Faith is end-game DLC, meaning you must complete the main storyline before diving in.

Is Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith Free?

Yes! Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith is a free DLC that will be automatically updated when you turn on your system.

Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith First Impressions

Cult Of The Lamb: Relics Of The Old Faith Review –Where Is It?

As much as I love Cult of the Lamb, I’m fairly underwhelmed by its Relics of the Old Faith DLC. I adore the chance to dive back into things after the endgame story. It certainly beats replaying the same story over and over just to build a new cult. That being said, from what I’ve been able to experience so far, Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith is mostly a repetitive grind.

New characters task you to go back through Darkwood, Anura, Anchordeep, and Silk Cradle to beat all the bosses a second time. It’s basically replaying the exact same story like they didn’t even try. I will say that I did not get very far due to the relic room bug, so I remain hopeful that there is more to it.

One thing Massive Monster has done is revamped a lot of the combat rooms and enemies, so things are a little more interesting, at least. Though the objective feels very similar, at least it has a pretty new skin on top of it!

I look forward to playing around with new relics when able and hope there is a patch to the issue soon, as players are complaining all over the internet. At this time, I am reserved but hopeful that Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith will pull through.

Disclaimer: There are rumours that the Relic room bug in Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith has been patched as of last night, April 27, 2023. However, I jumped back into the game today, received no updates and am still very much trapped in a room with a deranged owl.
