Today marks the opening of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 PRIMAL.
Fans are up early to prepare for the download and dive into Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6. This week we finished out Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 after several quarantined months and a hard grind to level 225 for the completionist players out there. Now we launch into new content, and an entirely new experience in Chapter 6.
Jonesy is feeling rebellious, desperate to save the island. He has brought all the best hunters from alternate realities, explaining our item shop favourites this year like Ripley and the Xenomorph, Predator, The Mandalorian, The Walking Dead’s Daryl and Michonne, Master Chief and Kratos. His goal is to stop anyone from escaping the loop. The Foundation joins Jonesy to help save the island. This season Fortnite and Epic have done something completely different. Instead of their signature live events, The Zero Crisis Finale will have players log into a solo experience to play through before they jump into battle royale to experience all the new map and characters have to offer. We are hit by reality wave after reality wave, introducing us to new characters and enemies the map and Battle Pass have to offer. Once we complete our task and close the portals The Foundation and Jonsey sacrifice themselves and get trapped in the loop. We will have to wait and see what becomes of them both.
After the finale our players will find our island back to its roots, no more modern day comforts, “the Island has grown wild, and so must you.” We are stuck in a Primal biome as a result of reality completely collapsing. Players are introduced to three new locations within the biome, Colossal Crops, Boney Burbs and The Spire. Long time fans can breathe easing knowing Fortnite kept some of our old favourites, Slurpy Swamp, Catty Corner, Retail Row and more remain safe… for now.
The Spire sits in the middle of the map — A towering stone spire surrounded by a stucco village. The center of the map always remains the focal point of the story and is sure to be a hot drop. I’m excited to see where the story takes us, especially in this area.
Boney Burbs reminds me of a shanty town. Clearly it’s seen some flooding, and is built up on wood with ruins of cars and mud below. This area of the map has seen some big changes season after season, most recently being Salty Towers, Boney Burbs is a fresh new take on the location after all the past cityscapes in its place.
Colossal Colosseum is in ruins now as it changes to Colossal Crops. Players will find torn down walls and damaged statues in the new version, one of the Llama’s even featuring a skull instead of its statuesque head. It features plenty of farmhouses and produce for any players in a bind. Fences have been placed around the outside of the old Colosseum, the new farming community, the maps third now.
Every season Fortnite creates an epic Battle Pass for players to earn new unlockable in-game items. In addition to pickaxes, back blings, emotes and more players will earn new outfits based on some well known characters deemed unafraid of the primal:
Agent Jones: Willing to get rough to save Reality.
Lara Croft: The latest member of the Gaming Legends series.
Tarana: Embracer of the wild.
Raz: Seeker of The Spire’s mysteries.
Cluck: Born of the wild.
Rebirth Raven: Founding member of the Teen Titans.
Spire Assassin: One with The Spire.
Coming soon to the island is Neymar Jr. Epic will be releasing more information on this character in the coming months. The season is just getting started and it seems like they have plenty more in story for us this coming season. The season has already introduced so many new features like a brand new crafting system. You can find it in a new tab in your inventory. Collect items from around the island, hunt and destroy, and then see what you can combine to turn your makeshift weapons into something more. We aren’t alone on the island anymore either, frogs, wolves, chickens and boars are free to find and hunt for new crafting materials as well. For a fun little tidbit, the second I saw chickens in game I found myself calling everyone “chicken chaser”, what I thought was my own little ode to Zelda. Turns out you can use the chickens in game to fly, so I think Fortnite thought this out long before I did. I’m sure I haven’t found everything there is to find yet, I’m looking forward to seeing the different crafting combinations I can make using weapons and in game items.
If you are anything like my family, you’re playing through the first few hours of the season with your kids. I was a little worried with the season featuring a solo play through. I wasn’t entirely sure my six-year-old could handle it on his own, but Epic made it family friendly and easy to follow, so much so that my kid finished it before I did! I do believe the crafting system is going to be a little complicated for him, as I myself am a bit lost at the moment. But who knows? Maybe he will kick my butt there too!
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 is live now! Epic has promised more updates throughout the day, so check back for more information. Fresh, new material is ready for any players just logging on, so what are you waiting for?
