Most Anticipated PlayStation 4 Games of 2019 2

The PlayStation 4 had a strong year with 2018. From God of War to Spider-Man, the platform offered games that impressed fans and critics alike. With over 80 million consoles now sold and in peoples homes, it is on Sony to provide exciting titles that players can experience on the platform. With 2019 now here, it is time to look forward, and have a glimpse at what is in store for the PlayStation 4 moving into this year. With a strong slate of third-party titles and a slew of platform exclusives, players should not be at a loss for this to play moving into this year.

Dreams has been in development over at Media Molecule in some form since before the PlayStation 4 even launched. Originally revealed alongside the system in 2013, Dreams is a culmination of the studio’s creation-based design philosophy it’s been integrating into its games since the first LittleBigPlanet. The wealth of options for players to express creativity has been almost overwhelming based on what the studio’s shown, and with the beta ongoing right now, more secrets and possibilities are sure to unfold before the game’s eventual completion next year.

Days Gone

Sony Bend has been busy for several years working on its first console game since 2004. Days Gone, an open-world post-apocalyptic game, was first revealed at Sony’s 2016 E3 press conference, marking the much-anticipated return of Sony Bend, having been quiet since releasing Uncharted: Golden Abyss on the Vita in 2011. Days Gone is in an interesting, not necessarily enviable spot of being compared to Sony’s other major post-apocalyptic series, The Last of Us, but diverges in interesting ways thanks to its more open structure. Sony Bend has had quite a long time to bring Days Gone together, and we’re excited to see the fruits of the studio’s labor.

Ghost of Tsushima

Sucker Punch Productions continues to evolve with each new series and setting it explores, and Ghost of Tsushima is a major deviation from the studio’s past work on Sly Cooper and Infamous. Instead of cartoon thieves and superheroes, Sucker Punch’s latest is focusing on a samurai in the 13th century. The studio’s usual open environments aren’t going anywhere, but instead of using superpowers and trickery, Tsushima will take a more grounded approach to the open-world genre, requiring you to ride horses or explore on foot. Outside of the open world, Tsushima will feature sword battling and stealth. Sucker Punch is leaning into its talents with this one, as well as introducing new layers to its open world design. It’s been five years since the studio was last in the spotlight with Infamous: Second Son and Sucker Punch is looking to send the PS4 off in style.

Death Stranding

Whether Kojima Productions’ much-anticipated, star-studded action game makes a 2019 launch is yet to be seen, but Hideo Kojima once said Death Stranding would be released before this year, so keep your expectations in check. In the beloved director’s first game since leaving Konami in 2015, featuring the acting talents of Norman Reedus and Max Mikkelsen, players won’t be returning to the same stealth action genre the Metal Gear developer is known for, instead, it will be focused on open-world built upon an otherworldly foundation. Even after demonstrations and several trailers, much of Death Stranding is still an enigma, but if Kojima Productions plans to launch it in 2019, we’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the coming months.

Medievil

In all the new IP and open-worlds of Sony’s 2019 catalogue, it’s nice to have at least one thing that’s familiar and more streamlined, and that’s coming in the form of the HD Remake of the PlayStation classic Medievil. Marking Sir Daniel Fortesque’s PlayStation 4 debut, the remake is in development at Other Ocean Interactive, known for work on ports of games like Minecraft, Costume Quest, and Mortal Kombat. The original Medievil was a silly, spooky, and often funny hack-and-slash set in the fictional kingdom of Gallowmere, and the PS4 version is bringing it back with a modern look and tweaked mechanics to bring it up to modern standards. And who knows, maybe if it does well we’ll finally get a third one.*
