The Walking Dead – Mid Season Finale “Start to Finish” Review 1

Well, that wraps up The Walking Dead for a month, and I’ve got to be honest, what a snooze-fest. I don’t know how something like all the walkers breaking into Alexandria still managed to be so boring and so full of teenage-angst style drama that just made it annoying.

If you missed it, the tower that took down the wall at the end of episode seven, let loose a torrent of zombies, overtaking Alexandria and forcing it to its knees. In the heat of all the zombie killing, Deanna reaches the end of her journey after suffering a zombie bite. While she’s able to maintain her positive disposition, cracking jokes and giving everyone motivational speeches, trouble is brewing in the house as Rick, Michonne, Jesse and Father Gabriel try to manage the ever problematic situation. Which is hard when Ron is being an angsty teenager, trying to pull a gun on Carl and only escalating a bad situation. Personally I was hoping this would lead to Carl getting his face blown off like in the comics, but I guess actual engaging ideas have no place at The Walking Dead table.

Meanwhile, Carol and Morgan are trapped in a room together, and despite the state of affairs, Carol still needs to be the worst character ever and try to deal with the captured Wolf. While Morgan showed off some serious Shaolin Monk skills disarming Carol, this led to the Wolf escaping with Denise as a human shield and most likely zombie bait.

The episode’s ending is extremely underwhelming with Rick and co walking out of the house covered in zombie guts, a trick not used since the first few episodes. It was only within the first commercial break of Into the Badlands that the reveal of Neegan was shown.

Honestly, I don’t know how much more I can take with The Walking Dead. It’s taking way too long for anything to get interesting, and it seems that it’s a problem that has only gotten worse as the seasons progress. While I’m curious to see, not only the most vicious villain in the comics but what Jeffrey Dean Morgan brings to the character (if it’s anything like his Comedian, we’re in for a treat). I don’t know to what degree TWD will keep me invested, though.
