Overwatch players from across the globe have been duking it out on the competitive ladder, improving their game and gaining major SR (Skill Rating) over the last Competitive Play season in preparation for the 2018 Overwatch World Cup.
The efforts of the top 150 players by SR from each nation have shined through and made 20 countries in contention, as their very best will face off against each other in the four host countries — the United States, France, Thailand and South Korea.
Supporting those players, however, are the backbone of worldwide Overwatch communities. These are community leaders who now have the chance to shine and compete by being part of their country’s official committee.
Within each committee are three roles — Community Lead, Coach and General Manager.
The Community Lead role will have two phases. Candidates must first have an account with a good standing, then they will be given a custom URL to share with their potential endorsers. Players are allowed to endorse as many candidates as they want. The second phase involves the reveal of each country’s top 10 candidates, where every player from the candidate’s country of residence can cast a final vote.
Coaches also have the same phase one as Community Leads, however, their phase two will involve revealing the top three candidates of each country and hold a runoff vote. This vote will be cast by the top 150 players from the candidate’s country of residence.
Unlike the other roles, General Manager candidates will not be voted on, but rather chosen and contacted by Blizzard Entertainment themselves. The company is encourage those who know they qualify to apply to [email protected] with their Battle.net email and resume.
All candidates are encouraged to show good sportsmanship, act in the best interest of the Overwatch World Cup and have personal integrity. For example, while seeking endorsements on social media or public events, they may not incite hatred or discriminatory conduct.
The 2018 Overwatch World Cup Official Rules will be provided in full by Blizzard Entertainment at a future date and time.
All the committees will be revealed on May 31.
