All The Big Winners of the Gamescom 2022 Awards

As Gamescom 2022 comes to a close in Cologne, Germany, Lies of P and Metal: Hellsinger lead this year’s awards.

It has been an exciting week of Gamescom, with countless new and exciting games on show. This was the first year back to a full in-person event since the pandemic took hold of the world, but the excitement has not diminished in the years away. This year’s show saw the halls filled with excited fans, and many new and established titles going all out to bring the love of gaming to Europe.

As with every year, the Gamescom awards took place, bringing with it many titles working to claim victory in their respective categories. But even with so many good titles, there can only be one winner, and the judges have spoken.

This year saw a diverse slate of games winning, with Lies of P claiming the most wins—taking home Best Action Adventure Game, Most Wanted Sony PlayStation, and Best Role Playing Game. The Souls-like based on Pinocchio has the gaming public excited, bringing a new darker take on the classic story.

Expected sometime in 2023 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and “inspired by the familiar story of Pinocchio, Lies of P is an action souls-like game set in a cruel, dark Belle Époque world. All of humanity is lost in a once beautiful city that has now become a living hell filled with unspeakable horrors.” Players will be able to reshape Pinocchio’s doll body, and the lies they tell will influence “interconnected procedural quests,” leading to multiple endings.

Metal: Hellsinger also managed to be a big winner of the night, taking home both Gamescom’s Best Action Game, and Most Wanted PC Game. This rhythm FPS will judge “your ability to shoot on the beat [to] enhance your gameplay experience. The more in sync you are with the rhythm, the more intense the music will become and the more destruction you will cause.”

Players will become The Unknown, a demon/human hybrid out for revenge upon The Red Judge of hell Herself. Metal: Hellsinger boasts an entirely original soundtrack with vocals by iconic names in metal, like Serj Tankian of System of a Down, Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, and Alissa White-Glüz of Arch Enemy. White-Glüz was among the artists on the soundtrack who performed at Gamescom’s special concert Thursday night.
