Maverick Games has unveiled its first big project today: an open-world driving game called Clutch, and it will feature a full campaign.
Calling all racers, there’s a new open-world sandbox driving game coming out. Today, Maverick Games took to the internet to announce its debut title, Clutch, a new open-world sandbox title that is described as a new-age Need for Speed Underground. In Clutch, players will drive through a sprawling narrative based around racing simulation, blending pro circuit racing with action-packed underground races, giving players the best of both worlds on the racing strip. Maverick Games is an independent developer, helmed by former Forza Horizon Creative Director Mike Brown, so it’s safe to say the company knows open-world driving.

Mike Brown says, “Maverick has assembled a dream team of car lovers and driving fans with decades of experience building genre-defining open-world racing games,” adding, “Our mission from day one is for Clutch to push the genre into a new era, innovate through new types of open-world sandbox gameplay and deliver a generational leap on the staples of why we love driving games,” regarding the newly announced open-world racer, saying that the new title will embrace daytime circuit races, as well as the seedier nighttime street racing element that put Need For Speed on the map.

This duality will play out on an open-world grid where players will compete for position, earn reputation and rewards, navigate shifting alliances, and challenge rival crews across a living PvPvE action-driving world. Clutch’s open-world sandbox hopes to unleash blockbuster action and unscripted player-based chaos at every starting line, while pushing players to progress through a diverse selection of hand-crafted missions and races that break the mould of traditional driving games. Players will also get to show off their creativity by personalizing their cars with deep customization, a feature that car game enthusiasts have always been hyped for.
Clutch is scheduled to come out sometime in 2027. In the meantime, fans can head to the official Maverick Games YouTube channel for more information.
