This easily makes it the biggest beta the series has ever had. The official Call of Duty X account shared a quick tease of the mission.
Modern Warfare 4’s beta will first be available in an Early Access phase from August 21-25, for anyone who’s pre-ordered the game. After that, it will transition into an open beta phase free to access for anyone from August 28-September 1; of course, you’ll need an active subscription to play online on consoles.
Modern Warfare 4 continues the story of the current iteration of the series (not to be confused with the previous Modern Warfare games on Xbox 360 and PS3). But this time around, the action shifts to the Korean Peninsula, with a hypothetical new war after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion and threatens to destabilize the entire world. In the midst of this assault, Captain Price wages his own war from the shadows, in an off-the-books mission looking to end things before they escalate too far.
You can see more details on the campaign, multiplayer, the new movement system, and DMZ over on the official Modern Warfare 4 website.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
