Critical Role's The Legend of Vox Machina Releases Red Band Trailer

Prime Video has released a red band trailer for its upcoming adult animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina which highlights Critical Role’s cast, humour and action fans can expect from the series.

The series is based on Critical Role’s first live-streamed Dungeon & Dragons tabletop campaign which ran from March 2015 to November 2017. It follows an unsavoury group of heroes known as Vox Machina who stumble – for some members drunkenly – into a quest to save the realm of Exandria. The adventuring party include barbarian Grog (Marvel’s Avengers‘ Travis Willingham), cleric Pike Trickfoot (The Last of Us’ Ashley Johnson), half-elven twins Vax and Vex (Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s Liam O’Brien and The Last of Us: Part II‘s Laura Bailey).

The cast also includes druid Keyleth (Final Fantasy XV’s Marisha Ray), bard Scanlan (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Sam Riegel), and gunsmith Percy (Final Fantasy XIV’s Taliesin Jaffe). Matt Mercer (Overwatch) who served as Critical Role’s dungeon master in the campaign will voice the show’s antagonist, Sylas Briarwood plus additional voices.

The first season of Critical Role’s fantasy adult animated series will feature the group’s rise to fame. The narrative focus of the show on the battles with the Briarwoods, a vampire and human couple who have a dark rooted history with Percy’s past.

All featured voice actors are all a part of Critical Role and serve as the show’s executive producers alongside Brandon Auman (Star Wars: Resistance), Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse), Shannon Prynoski (Fairfax) and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth. The adult animated series was originally announced as a Kickstarter project which accumulated over $11.3 million USD at the end of its campaign in April 2019 becoming one of the most funded Film & Video projects in Kickstarter history. Anyone who backed Critical Role’s Kickstarter campaign will be able to watch the series before its Prime Video release.

“Our friends at Amazon Studios have been working hard to finalize these logistics and next steps will be shared within the week,” Critical Role said in a Kickstarter update.

A couple of months later, the group announced the series had been picked up by Amazon for 24 episodes across two seasons and will stream exclusively to Prime Video. The support from the streaming service added an additional 14 episodes to the initial 10-episode season. Production of the series is being handled by animation studio, Titmouse.

The Legend of Vox Machina is set to premiere with three episodes every week for four weeks, starting on January 28th.
