Destiny Might Be The Most Expensive Game Ever Made 1

Bungie’s upcoming cross-platform title Destiny cost the company around $500 million dollars to make, according to a budget figure provided by Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick.

The figure was announced at last week’s Milken conference and if the budget is real, it stands alone (far above the rest) as the most expensive video-game ever made.

In second place is Rockstar’s recent effort, Grand Theft Auto V, which cost around $265 million to develop. Coming in third is another Activision effort, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, costing a measly (we kid) $200 million.

While COD and GTA cost around the same as a big blockbuster movie, Destiny outshines even the most expensive movie ever produced (Pirates of The Caribbean: At World’s End) by $200 million.

With this new landmark potentially set, can games move closer to the peak held now by movies? Only time will tell.

Destiny comes out for PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on September 9th. Be sure to keep it locked to CGM as more details arise.

Do you think Destiny‘s budget is justified? Are you going to buy Destiny? Let us know in the comments below.
