Showrunner Reveals Doctor Who x Fortnite Collaboration is Just a Myth

The Daleks Strike Again

Words On Doctor Who & Fortnite Collab Are Reportedly Untrue 1

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies responded to the rumours about a Fortnite collaboration, stating that they are not true.

Perhaps the Daleks have been spreading a little misinformation on the internet lately. The Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies recently came out and debunked the rumours that the sci-fi show would be doing a collaboration with Epic Games’ Fortnite. As reported by Eurogamer, Davies replied to a user on Instagram who asked about the supposed crossover, saying, “There isn’t one! It’s a complete myth, I’m afraid.”

While the truth comes out today, there was a lot of evidence suggesting otherwise. The alleged Doctor Who x Fortnite event was said to be launching with the new season in May. A determined list of Doctor Who content included skins for David Tennant and Ncuti Gatwa’s individual Doctor models. The rumours have been floating around the internet for so long that fans are still not convinced.

Other items said to be in the game were a TARDIS glider, an emote where your character flexed their Psychic Paper, and a Sonic Staff and Dalek Manipulator Arm, claimed to be pickaxes. In-game, UNIT troops were suggested to appear on the Fortnite map as part of quests involving an investigation of a Meep Star Cruiser and the use of Wrarth Warrior weapons – all plot elements referenced in the show’s 60th anniversary.

Showrunner Reveals Doctor Who X Fortnite Collaboration Is Just A Myth

Almost a year ago, there were a couple of whispers about the crossover marking Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary. It would have even lined up with how Disney+ has been bringing almost every episode onto the streamer. But then, reports continued to note how the event was delayed and would be switched to coincide with the new season’s release.

The reports even came from credible Fortnite leakers who have proven many times that their early information was based on facts, such as iFireMonkey and FNBRintel. This makes Davies’ statement that the collaboration is not happening even more surprising and suspicious. There were also details included which referenced to the then-upcoming 60th anniversary episodes. These included an item that depicted Doctor Who monster Beep the Meep, long before it was widely known the creature would indeed be featured.

Last week, Disney announced it was investing $1.5 billion in Epic Games, which pointed to an investment in Fortnite. So, maybe this deal has scattered some of these crossover plans a little? Disney has been known to be a close collaborator with Epic Games, but neither has yet to make an official comment on the matter.
