Fortnite Fans Think They’ve Found a Lord of the Rings Tease

A Precious Easter Egg

Fortnite Fans Think They've Found a Lord of the Rings Tease 2

Fortnite has an absurd variety of crossovers that have hit the game over the years, and fans think a new Easter Egg could hint that the legendary Lord of the Rings franchise might be next.

The Easter Egg was pointed out by @ShiinaBR on Twitter, an account that regularly covers Fortnite news and rumours. In a Tweet, the account posted an image from a beach area in Fortnite, where a new castle is being built by the Rock Family, a set of characters that have popped up in little places around the map since Chapter 1. The castle bears a striking resemblance to Helm’s Deeps from Lord of the Rings, right down to the breach in the massive wall next to the castle.

Each new season and patch Epic Games loves to insert little hints and teasers across the game’s map, so there’s certainly a good chance this could be pointing to a future collaboration. Unfortunately, there’s not really any way to tell what any kind of collaboration could entail. It could be as simple as one skin, or a huge full-blown event like Marvel and most recently Dragon Ball Z.

A Lord of the Rings crossover would line up nicely with The Rings of Power television series set to premiere on Amazon Prime on September 2. However, things are a bit more complicated than that.

The rights to the Lord of the Rings films, and many of the games, is held by Warner Bros, who haven’t participated in any Fortnite collabs for a while. This is likely partially because of the release of Multiversus, with WB wanting to keep any kind of cameos or crossovers centralized to the fighting game. There have even been rumors that Lord of the Rings characters were planned for the game, but have been removed.

At the same time, news broke this week that the rights to the entire Lord of the Rings franchise were being purchased by Embracer Group, which calls into question how future licensing of the franchise will work. Still, its’ possible a Lord of the Rings collaboration has been in development for some time.

No matter what, though, it’s certainly not outside of the realm of possibility for a game that features Spider-Man, John Wick, Rick & Morty, Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, and much more.
