According to EA CEO Andrew Wilson, Microsoft sold 30 million Xbox One consoles by the end of 2017, which seems impressive, until compared to Sony’s 73 million PlayStation 4 sales numbers.
Microsoft has been evasive on the subject of sales numbers since the launch of the Xbox One back in 2013, some have speculated that this change is due to the disparity in sales numbers against Sony’s own black gaming box.
The current sales figure of the Xbox One come directly from an earnings call released earlier this week — Andrew Wilson went over in detail EA’s expectations regarding both Microsoft and Sony.
“Turning to our expectations for fiscal 2019, we expect sales of current-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony to continue to be strong, with the installed base growing to 130 million consoles by the end of calendar 2018 from 103 million at the end of calendar 2017,” said Wilson.
EA has previously spilt the beans regarding the sales figure of the Xbox One — back in 2016, EA, during an earnings calls mentioned that Microsoft had sold around 18 to 19 million Xbox One units.
It doesn’t seem like Microsoft is backing down, in fact, the company seems to be pushing their console even harder, with releases of upgrades such as the Xbox One X and the possibility of new game properties coming to the system, according to a public job posting for the Santa Monica area.
