EVE Frontier, the hardcore space survival game spin-off of the incredibly popular EVE, will be entering its next phase soon.
Fenris Creations outlined the upcoming changes coming in EVE Frontier‘s Cycle 6, titled Sanctuary, including a server-wide refresh to level the playing field, making it a perfect time to hop on for new players. There’s plenty more coming in the next major update, including modular ships and updates to exploration and environmental dangers.
EVE Frontier differs from its sister series, EVE Online, with a much bigger focus on survival. Players struggle to survive in a broken-down galaxy as Riders, forced to build their ships and desperately try not to lose them. With the Cycle-based development, new features are added in and tested with those part of the Founder Access community, allowing for quick feedback and tweaking.

“Sanctuary puts the core systems of EVE Frontier front and center,” said Game Director for EVE Frontier, Sæmundur Hermannsson. “This is the foundation of the experience: building your ship, pushing deeper into the unknown as the world becomes more hostile, and making constant decisions about where to go, what to risk, and how to survive as everything and everyone shifts around you.”
Modular ships are one of the major focuses of the new Cycle. It gives the players new opportunities for progression and customization, allowing them to customize and add to their ship in a more granular fashion. New parts will allow for new ways to tackle situations, letting the player decide how their ship grows and changes.
It’s not just the ships that require greater care, as space itself becomes a threat. New status effects, including gravitational, thermal, and electromagnetic, can affect the player and their ship. You’ll now need to account for nearby stars and planetary conditions, along with whatever else hides in the darkness of space. It’s not just combat anymore; traversal becomes a battle for survival.

Alongside all of the above, Dormant Gates and Feral enemies are also being added. Dormant Gates offer access to new star systems after they’re fixed and reactivated. New Feral enemies offer more of a challenge, with them going after resources, defending important zones, and reacting to the players’ choices and actions. Leeches can also stick to ships, sapping resources from them before turning into optional mini-bosses called Wreck Stalkers.
Development Director for EVE Frontier, David Bowman, says that “this is our most impactful update yet. Modular Ships, Dormant Gates, environmental hazards, and new enemies all move the game toward the same goal: giving players more agency in a galaxy that is innately dangerous and shaped by what they build, discover, and fight for.”

EVE Frontier is available now on PC, with Cycle 6, Sanctuary, transforming the galaxy on June 25, 2026.
