The Marvel MMO will yet you step into the shoes of your favorite Marvel heroes.

Marvel revealed the first details for its upcoming Marvel MMO during a press conference held last night in San Francisco, and we’ve learned that the game will be free-to-play and will be written by Brian Michael Bendis, whose Marvel credits include House of M, Secret Invasion and Ultimate Spider-Man.

“The reason I was so desperate to be a part of this is that I’m a big believer that the Marvel Universe is more than a fictional universe of characters, it’s kind of a lifestyle for a lot of people,” said Bendis.

Unlike DC Universe Online, the Marvel MMO will allow people to play as established Marvel characters like Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. That could create some problems if multiple people want to play as the same character, but developer Secret Identity Studios says that they’re working on a solution to those issues.

Marvel has also confirmed that Dr. Doom will be the game’s main villain and that the game will draw notable story lines from the comics, movies, and the animated series in order to bring the Marvel Universe to life. The Marvel MMO does not yet have a release date and has only been announced for the PC so far.
