It's Chilly Out There

The Original Frostpunk Is Heading To Switch 1 & 2

Way back in 2018, Frostpunk made headlines as a genre-defining game, and now, in 2026, Switch players can finally enjoy it.

With a set release date of October 19th, Frostpunk is set in a gritty, apocalyptic future where the Earth has become too cold for human habitation. The solution? A city called New London is founded in a glacier, with a massive heating tower keeping the population alive. Your role in this new society is to keep it alive by any means necessary.

The laws you choose will shape the society around you; healthcare, food provisions, and work routines will all influence how the city runs and survives. These choices, however, will inevitably lead to hard choices, with whichever option you pick leading to outcomes that could benefit or doom your city. Doom means that your citizenry will revolt if treated inhumanely or pushed too far.

Aside from the management system, there are also other concerns, mostly pertaining to technology. While the current tech is enough to keep the city running, in the long term you will need to progress through various new machines. The material for these machines, plus other resources, can be acquired through some building projects or expeditions into the frozen wastes. Expeditions are an important part of survival because, while risky, they can bring rare resources, important intel, and additional people to live in the city.

There are also two other modes to play in for certain types of players who like playing in a certain way. Endless mode is for anyone who wants to see how far they can get the city to survive in the Apocalypse, and Serenity mode is for the ones who want to build a city without having to worry about anything else.

When Frostpunk releases, it will be done in two versions: the base game and the complete edition. The base game is just the base game and will be priced at $29.99 and will have a 30% launch discount, while the Complete Edition will include the base game plus all three DLCs and a launch discount of 35% for $45.00. To learn more, check out the 11 Bit Studios website.
