With only a few weeks until House of the Dragon Season 3, a new mobile game, Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, is here to offer eager fans an appetizer in the meantime.
After being announced back in April, Game of Thrones: Dragonfire is already landing on mobile devices. Based on the Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon, Dragonfire is a free-to-play multiplayer strategy game developed by Warner Bros. Games Boston, where players will step into the role of a Valyrian descendant and rising dragonrider newly bonded to their first dragon.

Players are tasked with building their power across five dragon-led armies to take on Westeros, with the ultimate goal of seizing control of King’s Landing. There will be 28 unique dragons when the game launches, with more to be released in the future as part of a live service model. The roster will mainly contain original dragons made for Dragonfire, with some special appearances from iconic ones like Caraxes and Syrax. Players can also play the Dragon Strike minigame, where you can ride one of your dragons and attack armies and cities from above.
The multiplayer system involves players banding together to form Alliances, which are necessary to control tiles in the game world that provide resources and offer strategic benefits in battles against other Alliances. Every player is still part of a chosen Faction; however, solo players more interested in progressing their personal story can still complete goals without interacting with multiplayer.

The game will revolve around the “Reign” system, a series of limited-time events that keeps the competition between players and Alliances fresh by resetting territorial control while still progressing the game’s narrative. Reigns will feature new Campaign scenarios, with multiple branching outcomes that affect personal, Alliance, and Faction objectives. Some of these campaign scenarios have players doing anything from securing Rhaenyra Targaryen’s claim to the Iron Throne, or infiltrating the Greens and shaping events from within.
The aim of Game of Thrones: Dragonfire was to “put the world of House of the Dragon directly into players’ hands,” according to vice president and studio head of Warner Bros. Games Boston, Matt Read. “We focused on creating a game that feels true to the universe fans love while giving them room to play their own way. Our team in Boston is excited to share the game for fans to engage with the world they know and love.”
Something brand-new to a collaboration like this is also coming to the game: “Additionally, in a first-of-its-kind technology collaboration between HBO Max and Warner Bros. Games, players who link their accounts can earn escalating Game of Thrones: Dragonfire rewards by watching House of the Dragon Season 3, with each episode unlocking a bespoke in-game reward, plus a premium reward for completing the full season.”
Game of Thrones: Dragonfire is available to play now on iOS and Android. Season 3 of House of the Dragon will premiere on Crave this June 21. We are also still waiting on a release date for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, revealed last year.
