gamescom 2026 is shaping up to be the biggest edition yet of the world’s largest gaming event, with more than 1,600 exhibitors from 67 countries set to descend on Cologne starting Aug. 24.
There was no question: gamescom was already one of the biggest gaming events around the world, and in 2026, it is looking to be even bigger. The show floor spans 233,000 square metres (about 2,507,991 sq ft) of gross exhibition space and is fully booked for the first time, while 47 country pavilions representing 40 countries, including first-timers Bulgaria, Cyprus, Hungary, Morocco and Nigeria, give the show its strongest international footprint to date. 70% of exhibitors are travelling from abroad, and fan demand is keeping pace, with wildcards and Saturday tickets already sold out.
“With gamescom 2026 just days away, the outlook couldn’t be better,” said Felix Falk, managing director of game – The German Games Industry Association. “Even more exhibitors from 67 countries, a new record number of country pavilions, a sold-out show floor and the biggest indie area to date – this year’s games highlight promises to be an unforgettable week that captures the incredible diversity of games culture.”
Even with all the massive titles heading to this year’s show, gamescom 2026 is bringing a strong indie contingent, with more independent games than ever before. More than 420 companies will showcase hundreds of games, a 16% increase from last year’s 364 and a new all-time high, in keeping with the show’s “Small teams, big successes” theme.

Fans at home can stream gamescom Opening Night Live, the gamescom awesome indies showcase, the gamescom GDQ charity speedrunning event and gamescom studio. The returning gamescom epix adventure also sends players into outer space, with 19 of its 67 trading card designs available as physical cards for the first time, something collectors are sure to enjoy. On Aug. 29 and 30, the gamescom city festival moves into central Cologne, with acts including Thees Uhlmann & Band and The Notwist.
Business programming leads the way Aug. 24 and 25 with gamescom dev, featuring keynotes from Tencent Games business development director Amir Satvat and Subnautica 2 creative director Anthony Gallegos, along with more than 380 speakers across 230 sessions. The gamescom congress follows Aug. 27 and will be opened for the first time by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
“In 2026, gamescom is proving its economic significance once again – not just for Germany as a games location, but also for Europe and the entire global industry,” said Gerald Böse, president and chief executive officer of Koelnmesse GmbH.
gamescom 2026 kicks off Aug. 26 and runs until Aug. 30, with the broader week of events and streams beginning Aug. 24. Opening Night Live takes place Aug. 25, with the pre-show starting at 1:30 p.m. EDT (7:30 p.m. CEST) and the main broadcast beginning at 2 p.m. EDT (8 p.m. CEST).
