A Lost Art

One of the most influential FPS shooters, GoldenEye 007, has finally been announced for Nintendo Switch with an Xbox Game Pass release imminent.

Rare Replay launched with a large amount of titles, but fans were more interested in what was missing, GoldenEye 007, rather than the inclusions. GoldenEye 007 was nowhere to be found, but today the MI6 FPS that initially released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997 has been announced to make its way to the modern set of Nintendo and Xbox consoles.

Here’s the Rare Ltd. trailer announcement for Xbox Game Pass.

This is extremely noteworthy for non-game collectors who simply want to jump into a split-screen session loaded with nostalgia—which the Xbox Game Pass trailer is loaded with—featuring the classic in all of its 64-bit glory. Resell Nintendo 64 cartridges of the storied title aren’t exactly the most expensive on the secondary market, but needing the original console, wires, and adapters to jump back into a serious split screen on Temple match will be far easier.

While the Nintendo Direct revealed their own edition of this trailer, they also mentioned that it will feature ‘Online Play,’ and both systems have left ‘coming soon’ as the release date, leaving the window wide open as to when it will finally drop. What’s most noteworthy is the title will launch on the Nintendo Expansion Pass, and Xbox Game Pass, with no mention on whether it will be available on PlayStation, or if it will be available separately for purchase.

It seems the prayers for GoldenEye 007 to modern consoles has been finally answered with this news, but with such a vague release window we only have original gameplay and incredible speed runs to watch until then. Here’s a record breaker history on the storied title by Youtuber Karl Jobst to whet fan appetites in the meantime.
