Kim Cattrall will officially be joining Hilary Duff in the Hulu reboot of How I Met Your Mother, playing a future version of Duff’s character.
Just like with the original How I Met Your Mother, the rebooted show will follow a group of friends as they try to navigate their complicated love lives. Hilary Duff is set to star as the main character Sophie, while Kim Cattrall will play the character in the future, explaining to her son “How I Met Your Father.” One of the major differences in the new series is that it takes place in modern times, amidst a wealth of social media and dating apps. Cattrall is, of course, best known for her role as Samantha Jones in the long-running Sex and the City series.
The series will debut with ten episodes on Hulu, and there’s currently no word if another season is going to be greenlit. The pilot of the new show is directed by Pam Fryman, who directed the majority of the original How I Met Your Mother. The original series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are returning once again, while Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger will serve as showrunners for How I Met Your Father.
Joining Duff and Cattrall is Chris Lowell (Promising Young Woman, Private Practice) as Jesse, Francia Raisa (Grown-Ish, Bring It On: All or Nothing) as Valentina, Tom Ainsley (Boots On The Ground) as Charlie, Tien Tran (Candyman) as Ellen, and Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi, God Friended Me) as Sid.
This marks Duff’s first role in a show following Younger, which ended in June 2021 after seven seasons and 84 episodes. How I Met Your Father doesn’t currently have an air date, but based on social media posts from Duff and the rest of the cast, seen above, it started filming on September 1, 2021.
