Joss Whedon Leaves Batgirl Movie

Joss Whedon Leaves Batgirl Movie 1

Director Joss Whedon has decided to put down the cape and cowl and leave the upcoming Batgirl movie.

Whedon, who signed on to write, direct and produce the upcoming Batgirl film, is leaving the project because he was unable to come up with a good film idea. Whedon announced the news in a statement to the Holywood Reporter. “Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story,” Whedon said.

He also sent his thanks to, Warner Bros. Picture group president Toby Emmerich as well as DC Comics president Geoff Johns, saying, “I’m grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I…uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed?'”

It was originally reported in 2017 that Whedon had signed on to the film and at the time he was excited to write, direct, and produce the unnamed Batgirl movie. It is unclear if the film will still go forward without Whedon, and if this new will affect DC’s film plans.

Whedon was brought into the DC filmmaking Universe last year to work on some re-shoots for the Justice League movie. He is best known for creating Buffy The Vampire Slayer as well as being the director of the first two Avengers movies.
