LucasArts grabs Unreal Engine with multi-year licensing agreement

The Star Wars studio will use Epic’s engine on all supported gaming platforms.

LucasArts is following the lead of Warner Bros. and has signed a “multi-year, studio-wide” licensing agreement with Epic Games to use the Unreal Engine 3 for multiple projects across all supported platforms.

“Unreal Engine 3 is a forward-looking solution that shortens the path between inspiration and execution on a wide variety of gaming platforms,” said Zak Phelps, director of technology at LucasArts. “We are thrilled to add another exceptional tool to our technology mix.”

And that’s pretty much all you need to know. The actual length of the deal isn’t mentioned in the press release, but it we’ll probably see quite a few Star Wars games built with the popular Unreal technology.
