Lucca Comics and Games Reveals A New Black Widow & Hawkeye Comic Series

Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski revealed a bombshell at Italy’s Lucca Comics and Games today, as a new Black Widow & Hawkeye comic series has been officially announced.

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of both Marvel’s Black Widow & Hawkeye, Marvel EIC C.B. Cebulski has pulled back the curtain on a new comic series that stars both heroes at Lucca Comics and Games. Up-and-coming Marvel Writers Stephanie Phillips (known for Contest Of Chaos, and 2021’s Harley Quinn) and Paolo Villanelli (Captain Marvel: Dark Tempest) are set to take over scribe duties for the new Black Widow & Hawkeye series, and the comic series is set to go in a new direction for both of the characters. The four-issue limited series will contend with the two heroes’ past secrets and the more pressing development of Black Widow bonding with a Symbiote.

At Lucca Comics and Games, Stephanie Phillips said “I love getting the chance to dig deep with Natasha Romanov and Clint Barton to tell a fast-paced spy story that celebrates their 60th anniversary,” with “Nothing is as it seems, and I’m having a ton of fun writing these characters. Not to mention they both look great for 60” on the upcoming Marvel’s Black Widow & Hawkeye.

The revealed cover gives fans a look at Natasha Romanoff’s new duds, complete with the Symbiote influence Amazing Spider-man #300 made iconic. Cliff Barton however appears in his traditional purple costume albeit without the cowl, which started in the 1972 issue Avengers #98. The plot for the new series sees Cliff Barton at odds with the US and Madripoor after being accused of a rogue assassination, while Black Widow grapples with her newfound symbiote powers and bonds with the lifeform that gave the power to her. The limited series shows the longstanding relationship between the two characters, and even when the chips are down they still can rely on each other.
