A new EA studio, Cliffhanger Games, is developing a new single-player action-adventure game based on Marvel’s Black Panther.

This morning EA announced that a new Seattle-based studio called Cliffhanger Games will be developing a single-player action-adventure game based on Marvel’s Black Panther from the comics and other inspirations. While the game is still in the early stages of development, the team has announced on their careers page that they are looking for many team members to join their diverse team. This is a brand-new studio with AAA backing, so expectations are high for such an iconic hero.

Cliffhanger Games will be working alongside Marvel Games to nail every detail of Wakanda and its enriching environments, technology, culture and history. It promises to have an original Black Panther story that still feels true to the character. What better time to celebrate the hero than on its 57th anniversary of the hero’s debut in Marvel Comics!

Cliffhanger Games has a strong leadership team with its leaders who worked on many massively successful games such as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Halo Infinite, God of War, Call of Duty and others. The team is currently led by Kevin Stephens, who worked at Monolith Productions (a Warner Bros. Games-owned video game development company).

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game,” Stephens shared on the early development announcement. With the collaborative efforts all around, this truly feels like a daunting task that the right people can tackle.

“We want our game to enable players to feel what it’s like to be worthy of the Black Panther mantle in unique, story-driven ways, and we want Cliffhanger Games to empower everyone on our team as we collaborate to bring this amazing world to life,” Stephens explained.

Nothing was revealed about what consoles this game would be coming out for or a potential release date. More details will surely follow as the team continues to grow and more work is done on the game. It seems like Wakanda’s protector is in good hands, as Cliffhanger Games appears to be working closely on getting the fine details right and doing the research. Fingers crossed, this will blow Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers game out of the water (not to roast that thoughtfully-crafted game)!
