After the last update introduced creature battling, No Man’s Sky is back at it again with The Swarm update, unleashing a nasty new threat in space.
With No Man’s Sky turning 10 in August, the developers at Hello Games have unleashed yet another big update that’s taking over space. The Swarm update is bringing a brand-new threat to the oxygen-less skies of the universe, and with it, new space battles are coming. No Man’s Sky has been on a tear in 2026, as they’ve introduced Pokémon-style pet battling (from April’s Xeno Arena update) and gravity-gun-equipped refuse collection (from The Remnant update), and they’re not finished yet. The Swarm brings the fight back to space, and Hello Games has uncorked a trailer showcasing the action that can be seen below.
The Swarm introduces a new danger that has appeared in the No Man’s Sky universe. A huge, foreboding Hive-like ship hangs in the middle of the universe, unlike anything The Sky has seen before. On this new Expedition, travellers will need to face a ship that has nearly impenetrable defences and will be accompanied by a host of smaller and nimbler battle drones, which must be crushed to get close enough to target the Hive ship itself. This ship has the biggest laser cannon the universe has seen to date. The Swarm will see players mounting a war effort to push back against the invading Hive of Glass.

Founder of Hello Games, Sean Murray, says, “The prospect of all existing Travellers converging on a single area of the universe to take the largest space battles to date, against the backdrop of an ominous, mysterious Death Star-like construct, with the ability to destroy space station-sized objects… is going to make for some exciting weeks ahead for us and for players. We can’t wait to see how this plays out,” ahead of the update launch today. Those who will take up arms against The Swarm can expect rewards including a retro-inspired sci-fi suit of armour, a new jetpack, a new rifle, and more.
No Man’s Sky: The Swarm can be confronted today, and fans looking for extended patch notes can head to the official site.
