One Piece episode 1014 is scheduled to be released this weekend and this week has had numerous updates on the details for the upcoming One Piece Red film.
It has been over a month since the last One Piece episode aired as Toei Animation announced the show would be taking a hiatus. In the show’s absence, the production company had been releasing more details of the anticipated film, One Piece Red. The second teaser trailer released this week revealed one of the major plot points, as well as character visual posters for the Straw Hats and other main characters.
The latest trailer showed “Red-Haired” Shanks talking with his daughter, Uta, who was never mentioned before in the anime series. The story seemed to not shy away from the shocking fact that one of the four pirate emperors had a daughter. The film was originally rumoured to be about Shanks but no one saw this coming. This newfound knowledge also raised questions if this will change Shanks’ plans to obtain the one piece and may affect his close relations with Luffy. My question would be, who is the mother?
Here is the plot of the film revealed by Toei Animation:
“Uta — the most beloved singer in the world. Her voice, which she sings with while concealing her true identity, has been described as “otherworldly.” She will appear in public for the first time at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans — excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance — the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is “Shanks’ daughter.”
One Piece Red
Not much is known about Shanks since he has been well-known in the pirate world off-screen, but no one (not even the manga readers) has been able to tell what his true powers are or what his motivations have been. Another interesting note about the film was that the manga creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, will be overseeing the film—the first time he has ever been a part of the writing staff for the movies. Maybe this movie will actually affect the plot of the series since most of the other films did not.
Earlier this week, Toei Animation dropped new character visuals for the infamous Straw Hat crew and their looks and quotes expected from the movie. Shanks and Jinbei also received updates to their looks—Shanks was looking beefier than Dwayne Johnson. Shanks’ quote was “stay out of this”, which could be him telling Luffy (practically one of his adopted sons) to back away from the situation that Uta may be involved with.
While everything about the film can be speculated, the series will be picking up right where it left off before it had to take a break—some spoilers ahead. Episode 1013 was a story flashback told by Yamato that Luffy’s late brother, Ace, came to the island to challenge Kaido before. The episode had some tear-jerking moments as it showed many of the characters in Wano grappling with Ace’s death on a similar gravity as Luffy. Of course, they did not have to witness Admiral Akainu’s molten fist through Ace’s chest (sorry, to reopen old wounds).
Episode 1014 was revealed to be titled, “Marco’s Tears! The Bond of the Whitebeard Pirates!” Of course, this would be a reference to Marco, the commander of the Whitebeard Pirates who took over after the death of Whitebeard. He was also a playable character in One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4. With the recent storyline that has centred around Ace, and Ace used to be Wa Whitebeard Pirate, it would make sense to see the new captain of the Whitebeards shine with his thoughts on losing Ace in the upcoming episode.
One Piece Red has a set release date for August 6, 2022, in theatres in Japan—there have been no further updates on when the film will be released for the rest of the world yet. Given that the recent hit-anime series’ films for franchises like My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer had excellent worldwide releases in theatres, perhaps, this One Piece film will get the same treatment.
Toei Animation confirmed episode 1014 will be released worldwide on Sunday, April 17th, 2022. The series is expected to return to its usual broadcast time on Crunchyroll, and in case you forgot, here are some of the times:
