People Can Fly Opens A New Montreal-Based Studio

The People Can Fly studio has announced the opening of a new Montreal studio, with the goal of working on an unannounced AAA title previously in development in NYC.

The catch here is the unannounced AAA title the new Montreal-based studio is set to work on has been in development for years at the People Can Fly Studio located in NYC. The new title is being billed as a big deal, and development is being led by Creative Director Roland Lesterlin and Studio Head David Grijns, who have both worked in tandem before at Avalanche, on the open-world sandbox title, Just Cause 3. The most striking information about the mystery title is that it has been in development for years, possibly since the NYC studio opened in 2019.

People Can Fly released a statement on their website saying, “We have launched our Montreal start-up studio as a part of PCF’s North American team, that’s working on People Can Fly’s new AAA project led by Roland Lesterlin from our New York office,” with “Montreal’s amazing atmosphere and well-seasoned gamedev industry make this project extremely exciting for us. We believe that PCF Montreal will soon play a major role in our studios’ portfolio,” regarding the huge change of scenery for the studio.

People Can Fly has had their hands on many different licenses, with Square Enix’s Just Cause series, Gears of War (the spinoff title, Gears of War: Judgment), and most recently, the other Square Enix title Outriders that released a major expansion called Worldslayer since its release in 2021. What’s interesting is Microsoft recently signed a deal with PCF on development for their ‘Project Maverick,’ and it remains to be seen whether this new Montreal Studio will have anything to do with that project. One thing is certain though, they’re not the same unannounced title due to the Montreal Studio development potentially starting in 2019, whereas the Microsoft deal JUST happened.

Fans looking for updates on everything People Can Fly can flock to their Twitter account or their official website to see what’s up.
