PlayStation E3 2016 Wrap Up

PlayStation E3 2016 Wrap Up

This year’s E3 has been very exciting so far, and the conferences have all been amazing to follow.

PlayStation continued that trend with their conference, showing off a few sequels and Hideo Kojima’s new project. Oh, and they had an orchestra playing the whole time. Check it all out below!

God of War

Kratos returns to us once again, kicking off Playstation’s E3 conference. This iteration seems to focus on viking mythology rather than the Greek-based games of the past.

In the footage, we see Kratos hunting with what’s presumed to be his son before they are ambushed by creatures in the forest. In typical God of War style, Kratos proceeds to slay them without breaking a sweat. Notably missing are his dual blades in place of a giant axe. The duo then take on a troll in a reckless battle.

Days Gone

What looks to be a post-apocalyptic game where players assume the role of a biker fighting to survive. Pretty interesting take on the genre.

The Last Guardian

What seems to be the ever elusive game now has a solidified release date of October 25, 2016, seven years after its initial announcement.

Horizon Zero Dawn

More gameplay of the futuristic/primal action game where shown at the Playstation panel, showing a crafting system and more combat. The creature machines appear to suffer from some sort of corruption or virus that causes them to become violent.

At one point the player traps one of the machines and turns it into a mount for faster travel. RPG elements also seem to play a role with different machines being vulnerable to different elements i.e. fire vulnerability.

Detroit: Became Human

Quantic Dream is back with their latest project, which also dives into the world of machine corruption, tackling the I, Robot scenario of androids going rogue. In the trailer, we see a negotiation droid attempt to end a hostage situation where a servant droid has taken a family hostage, and is threatening to throw their child off a building.

The game appears to be built around choice and what you do to affect the outcomes of different situations.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard

Presented as a PS VR experience, we find our character waking up in a desolate and run down house going from room to room. They eventually find a video tape and watch it on a VCR. It shows some pretty gruesome footage which we’ll leave to the imagination. Or for your viewing pleasure.

It is set to release on January 24, 2017. It will be fully playable from beginning to end with VR.

Playstation VR

Sony’s VR headset will be coming to North America on October 13, 2016 and retail for $399 USD. It will have up to 50 games that are VR compatible on launch. One of the games shown on was called FARPOINT, which appears to be a space-shooter. Another was a Star Wars X-Wing VR game and footage of Final Fantasy XV in VR.

Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima made his grand return at the Playstation conference, showing off Kojima Productions project staring Norman Reedus. Not much was shown aside from Reedus waking up naked on a beach surrounded by black goo and dead sealife. And five strange creatures/spaceships/whatever they were floating in the air.

Insomniac Games is taking on the world of the wall crawler. The game is confirmed to have a co-op mode.

Marvel and Insomniac join forces to “create a brand-new, authentic Spider-Man story exclusively for PlayStation 4.”

Other News

A trailer for Bound was shown off, as well as the announcement of the free-to-play Mech game Hawken coming to the PS4 and a look at Supergiant’s third game Pyre, a party-based RPG.

We also got a look at some ship-to-ship space combat in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

All in all, PlayStation had one hell of a show that rounded off the two days of conferences. It will be interesting to see who takes the cake as best conference this year. Nearly all of them had stellar performances.

CGM will have more E3 coverage the rest of the week so stay tuned!
