Behind the Hood

Exciting Playstation VR2 News Is Revealed Today By Sony, With New Features & Functionality 5

At CES 2022 this year Sony officially revealed the PlayStation VR2, and while an exciting VR2 based Horizon title was announced with it, more user features have been dragged out into the light today.

While the new VR2 headset has been bogged down by delays, and has also been confirmed to have AMOLED functionality, Sony seems to be moving along swimmingly in the development cycle for the PlayStation VR2.

Exciting Playstation Vr2 Features And Details Revealed

The user features announced today showcases the functionality of the VR2 headset, while also allowing the consumer to even set a play space. More features include the ability to adjust different modes to meet individual user needs, utilize what Sony is coining ‘See-Through View,’ and even broadcast the player while fumbling around in the real world (but exploring worlds inside the headset).

PlayStation VR2 – See-Through View

The new VR headset comes fully equipped with front-facing cameras similar to a GoPro except the user can’t record, to allow the player to see around their room while still wearing the headset. This is useful for locating the previously announced Sense controllers by just pressing a simple function button. This can also help avoid walls in a home as well, but that’s what the next segment announced does.

PlayStation VR2 – Customized Play Area

Exciting Playstation Vr2 Features And Details Revealed

By customizing the play area utilizing the Sense controllers and the camera sensors on the PlayStation VR2, players can set up a comfortable space in any room with the available area to be a VR gaming room. With the boundaries in place, the headset can determine when the player broaches the borders and warn the player accordingly. Possibly similar to trespassing, but with fewer steps.

VR Mode and Cinematic Mode Options

While in a VR experience, players utilizing the ‘VR Mode’ can take full advantage of “4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye) with 90Hz/120Hz frame rate,” making it an ideal option for playing the latest and greatest VR games. But with Cinematic Mode, players can view the user interface like never before on the PS5, with 1920×1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rate, non-VR related content can be watched fully on a virtual cinema screen as well.

Broadcasting Yourself While Playing

Exciting Playstation Vr2 Features And Details Revealed

Unfortunately, the PlayStation VR2 hasn’t been confirmed to have the camera available for this function, but with a PS5 HD Camera peripheral, players can broadcast themselves playing VR games while wearing the headset. This can potentially add a more organic reaction to potential audience streams, without having a huge amount of extra baggage.

Although this is pretty much everything that was revealed on the PlayStation Blog penned by Senior Staff Product Manager of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Yasuo Takahashi, where they closed out saying “There are lots of exciting things to look forward to for PS VR2, and we can’t wait to share more details about our next-generation virtual reality headset that takes a dramatic leap forward in gameplay innovation. We’ll share more information soon, including launch date and additional games coming to the platform.”

The PlayStation VR2 doesn’t have a set release date, but fans can slide over to the original PlayStation Blog post for more info regarding these announcements.
