Reggie Fils-Aimé Confirms Wii U Game Ports For Nintendo Switch

Switch owners who missed out on popular Wii U titles will be happy to know the games will likely be available on Switch in the future.

In an interview with Nintendo Now UK, Nintendo’s executive Reggie Fils-Aimé gave a comment on the possibility of Wii U ports heading to the Switch. He confirmed that the company plans to continue the previously started trend of releasing Wii U titles that gamers never got the chance to experience for themselves.

“Given the install base of Wii U, there was some fantastic content that consumers did not get to play…So that creates certainly a business opportunity. On the other hand, one of the things that we’ve discussed internally is, there really needs to be an additional element to that game to make it fresh, and to further compel the consumer to buy in.” Said Fils-Aimé.

This comment goes in line with what has already been seen from Nintendo’s past Wii U ports. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ported the Wii U’s best-selling title to the Nintendo Switch in April. Not only did the game include all of the DLC developed for the original, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also added new characters and features such as the ability to carry two power-ups at once. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also featured the return of the series’ classic “Battle Mode”, a feature absent from the original release.

The recently announced Pokkén Tournament DX is also receiving never-before-seen content. This new version of the 2016 Wii U fighting game will add four previously arcade-exclusive characters to its roster. Pokkén Tournament DX will also feature the Pokemon Sun and Moon grass starter, Decidueye to its list of playable characters. Pokkén Tournament DX will also add new assist character and feature better matchmaking options.

According to Fils-Aimé, most of the company’s major franchises will be available on the Switch by next March. Fans can look forward to more information on upcoming titles as we reach the end of 2017.
