Resident Evil 3 Remake Announced, Coming in Early 2020 8

The long rumoured Resident Evil 3 remake has officially been unveiled and it’s coming sooner than expected.

Announced during Sony’s most recent State of Play presentation, Resident Evil 3 will launch on April 3, 2020 and will be a re-imagined version of the original game. Resident Evil 3 will run on Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, the same one that was used for this year’s Resident Evil 2 remake and game will complete the Raccoon City story arc from the previous installment.

Story-wise Resident Evil 3 focuses on Jill Valentine as she tries to escape Raccoon City while being pursued by the bio-weapon known as Nemesis. An asymmetrical 4 vs. 1 online mode called Resident Evil Resistance is being added for the remaster, and it was previously unveiled as a separate project at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. In this new mode, players will be able to take control of certain Resident Evil characters and manipulate the environment as the Mastermind. The other four players are the survivors and they have to make use of a variety of weapons, unique abilities and teamwork in order to escape the experiment before time runs out. Players will also be able to take part in bonus Umbrella experiments that weren’t there in the original game.

North American console players will be able to buy Resident Evil 3 Collector’s Edition which comes with a copy of the game, a Jill Valentine figure, printed art book, map of Raccoon City as well as a digital soundtrack for the game. Players who pre-order the game will receive an exclusive Classic Costume Pack which features Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira in their original design and hairstyles.

Resident Evil 3 remastered has been rumoured for the past few weeks, ever since the presumed box art for the game leaked. As a whole, the Resident Evil franchise has sold over 94 million units with this year’s Resident Evil 2 remake having sold over 4.7 million copies to date. Resident Evil 3 will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam.
