Roblox On The Receiving End Of Another Heinous Hacking Incident According To Report 2

A report posted by Motherboard suggests the multi-billion dollar gaming juggernaut Roblox is looking down the wrong end of the extortion barrel after a hacker obtained personal documents.

An employee from Roblox was apparently the target of a huge hacker attack, with the goal of extorting the mega company Motherboard reported earlier this week. The article details the company’s unwillingness to bend when looking into the face of extortion, and the documents were subsequently posted online as rebuttal.

Roblox Hit With Phishing Attack According To Report

The documents, which are said to contain information regarding some of the most popular creators on the platform, have been released on an unnamed forum in a byte sized sample of 4 GB to start in the extortion effort as Motherboard details. This is not the first hacking attempt, as many Roblox players flock to Twitter with the hashtag #robloxhacked to spread warning. Reddit is also a notable hub of web speak regarding Roblox hacks as well.

A spokesperson for Roblox said “These stolen documents were illegally obtained as part of an extortion scheme that we refused to cooperate with. We acted quickly upon learning of the incident, engaged independent experts to complement our information security team and have tuned our systems to seek to detect and prevent similar attempts,” in a statement regarding the heinous incident that could damage creators on the platform, to Vice.

The documents that have been released thus far are reported to contain email addresses, and other sensitive information for users on the platform, all in an effort to extort money out of the billion dollar organization which is said to be the most valuable gaming company currently.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Roblox has been found in hot water this year, with the cement not even dry on a huge server crash that hit the service last October, and concerns being made about the security of children with the new voice chat capabilities the company has slowly rolled out. There are security measures in place for safety, but there are always people willing to break them for personal gain.

This may not be the end of this hacking Roblox saga, with likely more to report on this issue as it develops. Consumers will have to wait and see what comes next.
