Rocket League Mutates its Matches With Free Update.

A new free update will allow Rocket League players to customize their matches with interesting presets and new custom settings.

The new mode was announced In a press release, where Vice President of Marketing at Psyonix said “Longtime Psyonix fans already know that Rocket League’s origins are firmly rooted in the modes and mods of Unreal Tournament and its beloved sequels, and we’ve never forgotten that.”

Such mutations can include lower gravity, extended boosting, as well as allowing players to bring back classic modes like “Cubic” and “Time Warp.”

Dunham also says “Once they arrive, you’ll be able to create new Custom Matches with the rules and settings made especially from your tastes, while our sweet “Mutator Mashup” playlist allows you to enjoy pre-determined weirdo matches in public games like you’ve never seen them before.”

Much like Splatoon’s constant free updates, Psyonix has the right idea. Coupled with the free Halloween themed bonus DLC, Psyonix is offering its players way more incentive to keep playing their games at no additional cost.

It’s a good idea, and it builds a strong relationship between the developers and the customers. By giving people a lot of free stuff, it makes them more inclined to spend a bit of money on paid DLC (I know I’m considering buying the Delorean for Rocket Leauge). But it aslo allows for a wider audience to possess cosmetic enhancements, creating a stronger feeling of fairness.

More companies should follow the example that Nintendo, Projeckt Red and Psyonix are setting; whereas most AAA companies would slap a five dollar price tag on these cosmetic options. The consumer showed faith in your project, you should reward them, not the other way around.
