Rumor: Sony restores PSN for developers

It may not be long before the rest of us are able to reclaim our PSN accounts.

The PSN has been down for nearly four weeks, but the long wait may soon be over. According to the latest rumors, Sony has restored at least some PSN functionality for developers to allow them to get back to the business of testing, and while the PSN is currently described as “shaky” – users still aren’t able to sign up for new accounts – it could still point to the imminent return of the network.

The rumor comes courtesy of a NeoGAF user working for an independent QA firm here in Canada, and has since been ‘confirmed’ by a NeoGAF moderator who claims to have received similar reports from other people in the industry. The moderator expects the PSN, or “at least the online play/account part of it,” to be back up and running relatively soon.

Assuming that Sony has used the four weeks of downtime to upgrade the Network’s security, this is obviously good news for PS3 owners everywhere. People have had to go without online Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, and SOCOM 4 for far too long, so we’ll let you know if/when the situation changes.
