Sony goes public with "Buyouts" for PlayStation Plus

Sony is making it clear that they are willing to give money to certain developers that give their games away for free on the PlayStation Plus’ Instant Game Collection.

PlayStation manager of developer relations Brian Silva told developers at IndieCade, which is taking place this weekend, that they will offer “buyouts” to give away games on Plus for a month.

Developer Futurlab, which is working on the upcoming Velocity 2X told in a previous interview that putting their game on PlayStation Plus was, “Less about money and more about exposure, especially with a sequel coming.”

IHS Electronics analyst Piers Harding-Rolls has projected that Sony has made approximately $140 million in PlayStation Plus subscriptions since April of this year. He added that they could make revenues of $1.2 billion by 2017.
