Square Enix Reveals Q4 Earnings

Square Enix released their Q4 financial earnings revealing a favourable quarter.

Square Enix can thank the strong showings from Final Fantasy XV, and the PlayStation 4 launch of Rise of the Tomb Raider for a 25 per cent increase in their net sales and operating income from Digital Entertainment. Interestingly enough, their amusement sector, which takes into account amusement facilities, along with the planning, development and distribution of arcade machines saw a small increase in net sales at 3.9 per cent from last year, with a total of 42, 727 million yen. Their operating income decreased 8 per cent 3,669 million.  Square Enix attributes those numbers to their machines for Gunsliger Stratos 3 along with the after school activity, Love Live! School Idol Festival which saw favourable results.

Of course, Square Enix is a publisher and that segment saw a shift in consumer focus. Square Enix saw a decline of sales for comics, while their strategy guides for their big series’ saw better results. Net sales for publication saw an increase of 0.7 per cent totalling 10, 041 million yen, with an operating income increase of 7.1 per cent from the year prior landing at 2, 429 million yen.

Square Enix merchandising saw a steady performance, which the company attributes to character goods and soundtracks from their IPs (probably figures from Final Fantasy XV along with 20th anniversary Tomb Raider merchandise). Net sales in this segment saw an increase of 41.9 per cent from the prior fiscal year, with that number raising to 6, 451 million yen. Their operating income saw an increase of 41.7 per cent as well, at 2,150 million yen.
