Vehicular homicide makes a comeback with the return of Carmageddon.

Stainless Games – the developers responsible for the original Carmageddon and Carmagedon 2: Carpocalypse Now – have reacquired the rights to the franchise from Square Enix and are moving into pre-production for a new game titled Carmageddon: Reincarnation. The next Carmageddon will be distributed as a digital download in 2012, and will apparently feature “the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success.”

And at the moment, that’s pretty much all we know. Stainless is currently searching for a production partner, so Reincarnation is still little more than a concept that promises the return of “laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction.” That could make for an entertaining title, but there’s no point in getting too excited until we know more about how Stainless plans to deliver.

You can find out more at Carmageddon.com. The website indicates that Reincarnation will be a multiplatform title.
