Starfield’s Massive 125GB File Size Revealed

10X Skyrim Worth of Space

Starfield Will Take Up A Lot Of Space

Following its massive gameplay reveal during Summer Game Fest 2023, Starfield’s massive file size has been revealed to be over 100GB.

The march toward the release date for Starfield continues, and information continues to trickle out about the widely-anticipated Bethesda release. As fans wait for their opportunity to explore New Atlantis, Xbox has revealed the massive 125GB requirement to install the title, and that amount is just over ten times the size of Bethesda’s original Skyrim when it was released back in 2011. The information was posted on the official Xbox website.

Starfield Will Take Up A Lot Of Space

Bethesda hasn’t released a single-player game since Fallout 4 back in 2015, and that title weighed in at just 30GB. It’s important to note that file sizes for AAA titles have exponentially increased over the past few years, with the also Xbox published Forza Horizon 5 starting at 103GB before DLCs and patches were implemented. Now, after all the patches and DLC, that title sits at 156.6GB. Starfield may even consume more internal storage when it releases, considering many titles have a patch immediately upon launch.

With all that said, even at its massive size, Starfield is by no means the biggest game to hit consoles or gaming PCs in recent years. Considering other next-gen releases such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which requires a massive 150GB, or the massive size of the Call of Duty sequels, 125GB is far from the biggest release, especially considering how big the universe of the game promises to be.

Starfield Will Take Up A Lot Of Space

Considering that the Xbox Series S only has 512GB of internal storage and the Series X has 1TB, fans may be running out of space. That’s why Xbox has announced the new Xbox Series S Black Edition, which will launch on 1 September with 1TB, the same amount as the Xbox Series X, but at a discounted price of $349.99. There are SSD options that fans can use to increase storage beyond the normal capacity, and there is also an archive function to save space on the Xbox.

Starfield‘s release date is rapidly approaching, and fans won’t have to wait long to explore the vast reaches of space when Starfield launches on September 6.
