Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is getting its very first DLC release, Trials of the Dragon King on July 20th, just a little over four months since the game first launched back in March.
“A new warrior arrives bathed in light. An ancient dragon demands proof of worthiness. All another opportunity for Jack to prove his strength,” Trials of the Dragon King‘s synopsis reads.
As a part of the announcement, co-publishers Square Enix/Koei Tecmo Games and developer Team Ninja have released a short Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin trailer of what fans can expect from the upcoming expansion. Fans of the game picking up the Trials of the Dragon King DLC later in July will get new jobs, weapons, accessories, a new category of equipment, new areas, stories, and challenges.
The actual big addition that goes—even more—all in on the alternative Final Fantasy origin retelling aspect of the game is that Jack actually gets to throw down with the dragon summon, Bahamut and Final Fantasy I‘s protagonist, The Warrior of Light. In the trailer, he says to the player that they “will die here… and I will live forever.”
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin players can get the DLC either as an individual purchase or as a part of the game’s season pass. The latter of which will give pass holders access to two other add-on chapters, “Wanderer of the Rift” and “Different Future” which are slated to release later this year. Funnily enough, when news of the first DLC made the rounds really earlier today, in the place of the trailer on the game’s website was actually Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up music video. Who had getting rickrolled on their 2022 bingo card? Not me.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin‘s base game is currently available to play on PC via the Epic Game Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series which will all the platforms the upcoming DLC will be available at launch next month on as well.
