The Alters, taking inspiration from their 2014 critically acclaimed title This War Of Mine, the player takes control of Jan Dolski, a miner who has unfortunately crash-landed on a dangerous and unfamiliar planet. All alone, Jan finds a cutting-edge mobile base where he takes refuge and begins to find a way to survive on this planet, as the sun is extremely dangerous in this world. The biggest issue is that the base is designed to be run by a team of highly specialized people, and Jan is only one dangerously unqualified person.

During some exploration, Jan stumbles upon a coveted resource called Rapidium, which is only found on this planet. This allows him to interact with the mobile base’s Quantum Computer and manipulate important decisions from his own past, creating alternate versions of himself that can help aboard the base. These alternate versions are called Alters.

Jan’s Alters are valuable allies in the struggle for survival as they possess a myriad of different skill sets that are necessary for tasks such as repairing the base, mining resources, crafting tools, etc. The Alters aren’t simply mindless NPCs, however, as they each have their own emotional states, goals and more. Managing these relationships between Jan and the Alters is crucial if the group is going to survive the planet, and it won’t always be easy.

While a release date is still to be revealed, The Alters will be available on Xbox and PC Game pass on launch and will also be available for PC and PS5 some time in 2024.
