Fans eagerly awaiting the next instalment in Matt Reeves’ The Batman series will have to wait a little longer. However, they can be tided over with a small glimpse of new footage.
Posting on X, Matt Reeves shared a single link to a Vimeo page showcasing new camera test footage for The Batman Part II, which ended with a Feb. 18, 2028, release date. The film was originally scheduled for release Oct. 3, 2025, before it was delayed to Oct. 2, 2026, due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild strikes.
While the video itself doesn’t show much beyond a smouldering Robert Pattinson slowly turning towards the camera, it does give viewers a small glimpse into the depth and fidelity being captured by this Camera Test. A patrol car’s light illuminates falling snow in an ethereal landscape and Pattinson’s eyes are clearly defined against the lighting and noise. Joining Pattinson in the long-delayed sequel are Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, as well as Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch.
While details are still sparse about the plot of The Batman: Part II, it is said to focus more on Bruce as a character rather than his superhero persona, following the events set up in the Penguin spin-off series. Supposedly, Sebastian Stan will be playing both Harvey Dent and Two-Face after Stan described portraying the character as having “many roles.” Also rumoured to make an appearance within the film is Batman’s sidekick Robin and possibly The Court of Owls.
The Batman debuted on March 4, 2022, to mostly favourable reviews, sitting at an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film earned $772.3 million at the box office against an $185–200 million budget. While a deleted scene featured Barry Keoghan as The Joker, there’s no word on whether he will appear in the sequel.
