The Last of Us Part 2 will launch on February 21, 2020, Sony announced in its latest State of Play livestream.
The news came at the end of the stream, which showcased a new trailer for Naughty Dog‘s sequel to its popular and critically acclaimed The Last of Us. The trailer featured Ellie being ambushed on a horseback ride, watching someone close to her be killed off screen by a mysterious group, and her rampage of revenge that follows. Gameplay was shown in brief shots, primarily consisting of Ellie fighting back against humans, Clickers, and even a dog, using stealth and guns.
The trailer ended on a big reveal: Joel was alive. This is the first time Joel has been seen in promotional material since The Last of Us 2 was originally announced.
In addition to the release date announcement, Sony also released new details on The Last of Us Part 2 pre-order bonuses and collector’s editions. Most importantly, Sony clarified that the game will come in two discs, which has rarely been seen in the PS4 generation. Pre-ordering The Last of Us Part 2 digitally will receive a digital soundtrack, digital art book, a PlayStation dynamic theme, and PSN avatars. The physical Collector’s Edition will feature a 12″ statue of Ellie, a SteelBook case, a life-sized replica of her bracelet, a miniature art book, a set of enamel pins, an art print, a set of stickers, and the aforementioned digital content. The Elite Edition will feature all of the above, along with a full-sized, functional replica of Ellie’s backpack, an embroidered patch, and a 7″ vinyl record.
