The End For The Lethal Protectors?

Venom: The Last Dance Official Trailer Is Out Now

Sony has officially released the trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, spelling an end to the adventures of Eddie Brock and Venom.

Despite the negative reception of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) of late, Venom: The Last Dance brings the comedic chops of Tom Hardy back to the big screen. The official trailer for Venom: The Last Dance just came out this morning, offering a lot as what is to come at the end of this trilogy. The trailer teased some of the main cast that included Hardy alongside Juno Temple (Ted Lasso), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), and returning as Mrs. Chen, Peggy Lu. And no, I do not think Ejiofor is playing Mordo here…unless?

The trailer for Venom: The Last Dance kicked off with the a rendition of David Bowie’s Space Oddity playing, a little on the nose for the plot since creatures from Venom’s homeworld are touching down on Earth. The description line for the film read: “Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.”

Temple seemed to be some kind of scientist working to understand symbiotes, discovering that humans are not the only living beings in the universe. Meanwhile, Ejiofor’s character appeared to be an American soldier tasked to protect her and her research while also trying to capture Eddie and Venom. It was cool to see him capture a similar goop of symbiote from the bar that we last saw Eddie sit at but when he visited Earth-616 aka the MCU. However, the bartender looked a bit different—hinting this was the same character but was in Eddie’s universe.

Also, Eddie was wearing the same Hawaiian shirt he was wearing in the post-credit scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home. Interestingly enough, Rhys Ifans (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Amazing Spider-Man) was listed on the cast list below the trailer description. This could hint that the Lizard could be making an appearance, potentially working with Temple’s character. It may serve to prove that Peter Parker saved him when the Spider-Men sent the villains back to their original universes cured. It could also be a hint to bring back Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man since this was supposed to be his universe in the original grand scheme of things.

From the production standpoint, Kelly Marcel wrote the screenplay for this film like the past two films. She will also be directing this one! Joe Caracciolo Jr. serves as executive producer with other producing credits going to Hardy, Marcel, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker. No composer has been revealed yet, which I am always curious to see because the soundtracks for the SSU always pique my expectations.

For a 3-minute trailer, it showed a lot of the plot. But I hope there is a lot of twists and turns to offset what was revealed. I have been enjoying parts of the Venom films, so I hope it gets a proper send-off. I am also very interested to see the SSU’s Kraven the Hunter, which will be out before this on August 30, 2024. Venom: The Last Dance will be out in theatres in October, not setting an official date yet.
