With the next chapter of Thorfinn’s journey only a few months away, anime production company Twin Engine have shed some light on what to expect in the next season of Vinland Saga with a new teaser video and key visual images. Previously announced last summer, the second series will air in January 2023.
Vinland Saga is an anime adaptation of the manga Vinland Saga. The series follows the story of a young Viking warrior named Thorfinn who joins a band of mercenaries in order to seek revenge for his father’s death at the hands of Askeladd, the leader of the mercenaries. Last we saw Thorfinn—who was once on a path to vengeance—he was faced with his destiny in life and the consequences of a fateful choice made in a moment of anger.
In the first glimpse of new footage, we’re gifted with a look at Thorfinn’s early years as a mercenary under Askeladd’s command. We get more than a few glimpses of Leif Erikson and Thorfinn’s great uncle Thorkell interacting with new characters! King Canute puts his hand to the ghostly scar he acquired from the first season 1 finale.
To no surprise to anyone, the second season of Vinland Saga will boast a challenging and strong centre core in the main plot much like its predecessor was known for. However, what many fans seem to be most excited to see is the director Shūhei Yabuta and what he will do with this new batch of episodes. Much like the first season, Vinland Saga season two will premiere on Prime Video in North America.
