Looks like this summer will be off to a cute start, as Wholesome Direct is returning to showcase premieres, demos, and more for 50+ exciting indie games.
Wholesome Games was formed in 2019 with a mission to curate and highlight games with uplifting, hopeful themes, as grim themes continue to saturate what many gamers consider the best and most worthy of playing. Their Wholesome Direct has been the answer, a yearly showcase of carefully curated “emotionally resonant titles” for those looking to play more joyful titles, and this year, you can watch it as part of Summer Game Fest on June 6.
Since Wholesome Direct launched in 2020, the showcase has presented over 1,000 titles to a worldwide audience, inspired over 1,000,000 wishlists on online game stores, and raised over $300,000 for several charities.
For many years, the most critically acclaimed titles have been the ones with the darkest themes and grimmest depictions of life, but there’s also a whole world of hopeful video games with rich storytelling, innovative gameplay, and beautiful art and sound.

To Robin, video games are the ultimate form of storytelling. They love that the medium can utilize amazing music, visuals, writing, and the gameplay itself to tell a narrative worth getting lost in. They most enjoy souls-likes and dark, atmospheric indie games.
