Hideo Kojima tweeted about how he was working on a concept similar to Amazon’s The Boys, and the show’s team responded with a welcoming collaboration invitation.

The Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima apparently revealed he was working on a concept along the same lines of Amazon’s The Boys. With this idea not being as outrageous as it seems, the TV show’s showrunner and one of the lead actors, Eric Kripke and Antony Starr both responded they would love to work with the famous game developer and create a tie-in game to the series. Interestingly, Kojima did not disclose whether his initial project was a game, film, TV show or book.

Based on Kojima’s tweet, Mads Mikklesen was lined up to play the lead character in the project. The project was said to have been cooking up for a while but was halted when Kojima saw up to the first three episodes of The Boys. “I thought I’d watch the rest of the show,” he said. “Actually, I watched a few episodes that were delivered at the time when I was about to start a project that I had been warming up for a long time, and put it on hold because the concept was similar (different settings and tricks).

Kojima disclosed his project would have had “a buddy (male/female) thing with a special detective squad facing off against legendary heroes behind the scenes. I was thinking of Mads as the lead.” Of course, with the release of the third season of The Boys, it has continued to tell the story of how a ragtag team of humans have been tasked to police and brutally kill superpowered individuals who abuse their powers.

Kripke commented on Kojima’s tweet that stated how he was a fan of Kojima’s work and was open to collaborate on a video game adaptation of The Boys. “Please come and make a The Boys game. We can team up and conquer,” he said as Starr (who plays the character, Homelander in the series) added he seconded that notion.

Currently, Kojima had only shown and talked about his latest cloud project with Xbox, his latest horror game called Overdose and a work-in-progress Death Stranding sequel. The Boys season three has been a hit with the show already being renewed for season four with many Emmy nominations. CGMagazine has already rated the series so far around the 8.5/10 range from all its seasons, calling it “ruthless, blistering, scathing, and all the other adjectives for just that” and “filled with action, political commentary and more blood than ever before.”

Will Kojima take up the offer to make a video game adaptation? Only time will tell, and we can always expect some great things from these two established teams of great innovators and thinkers. Luckily, the game dev did not put any money into the concept idea as it was a working idea. Season three of The Boys is currently still ongoing on Amazon Prime. New episodes are released every Friday and they have recently released the infamous episode titled “Herogasm.”
